FAQs

I have never done Pilates before. Should I do a group class or a private session first?

That depends on the individual. The majority of our new clients will do just fine attending an LA Lite class which is a lower intensity to our LA class. With a maximum of 15 clients per class, the Trainer can modify exercises to suit differing abilities. Although still quite intense, classes are broken down using simple exercises so all individuals get the most out of their workout. If you have chronic back pain, are coming back from an injury or are pregnant, a one-on-one session would be best to assess your situation.

 

What class do I start with?

You should always start with an LA Lite class, even if you have done Pilates elsewhere or are quite fit. Love Athletica Pilates uses a lot of small muscle groups, you’ll be surprised how challenging the class might be and may need to build up your strength. You also need to familiarise yourself with the Love Athletica dynamic training method, basic principles and exercises, so that you don’t hold up the pace of our more advanced LA class.

 

Do I need to be fit to attend a class at Love Athletica?

Our classes are suitable for all ages, sizes, genders and athletic abilities and we offer modifications to suit everyone’s needs. It is low impact and easy on the joints, however don’t be fooled, this is an energetic group fitness class setting in which you will sweat! During class, it’s normal for the muscle group you’re working to shake and burn. That’s a good thing!

 

What do I need to know for my first class?

Please arrive 10 minutes early to your first class. This will give you time to familiarise yourself with the studio, fill out a registration form, meet your Trainer and have a quick run down on the Allegro 2 Reformer Bed you will use during class. If you’re late to your first class you might not be able to train.

 

What do I wear to class?

Wear comfortable clothes you can sweat, stretch and move in. We recommend gym tights, leggings or shorts and either a t-shirt or singlet top. At Love Athletica, we also encourage grip socks to be worn. Not only do they keep your little toes warm but you are also able to grip the reformer better with your feet, making it easier for you to do the exercises properly. Grip socks are available for purchase here at the studio, but you are also more than welcome to bring your own grip socks.

 

Is there any free parking?

2 hour free parking is available in Swinburne Community Centre which is 30m away towards the city on our side of Camberwell Rd. 1, 2, 3 hour spots are available in Redfern St and Rose St next to our building. Please see Parking Hacks for more free parking options.

 

What facilities do you offer?

We have pigeon holes at the back of reception for you to store your belongings. We provide complimentary towels, drinking water, refreshments, a bathroom and changing facilities on site. From time to time we will have a range of yummy teas on offer for you. We do not have showers.

 

Is there an age limit at Love Athletica?

Yes you have to be over the age of 16 years old to attend a class at Love Athletica. Our dynamic/high intensity classes are not suitable for young developing bodies.

 

Can I attend a class at Love Athletica if i’m pregnant?

Up to 15 weeks into your pregnancy, you can attend our LA Lite classes. Doctor's approval is needed for high risk pregnancies.

 

How often should I come to Love Athletica?

Your exercise routine is such a personal thing. How often you train will depend on your fitness level, what your fitness goals are, how your body adapts to the training and how well your body can recover. We recommend starting with no more than two to three classes per week and then we can dial it up from there.

 

I’m running late – can I still jump into class?

All of our classes include a warm up at the beginning of class which is necessary to safely ease your body into the workout. The Instructor will lock the door for security reasons once the warm up starts. If you are not on time to your class, you may not be able to join and you may be turned you away from the class.

 

What is the cancellation policy?

We have a strict 9 hour cancellation policy for group classes and a 24 hour cancellation policy for private classes. If you can’t make your class, it is your responsibility to cancel at least 9 hours (for group classes) or 24 hours (for private sessions) before the start time of your scheduled class or you will lose the session. We understand that sometimes unforeseeable circumstances can arise and life can sometimes get in the way, but we need to be fair and consistent with all clients. When possible, if you can't make it, please do cancel your class before it starts rather than just not rocking up, in order to free up and spot for another client.

 

What if a class is full/has a waitlist?

When a class is full you can join the waitlist and be notified via email and/or text message when you have been added to the class. Please respond to the email or text especially if you can’t make it as no-shows will result in forfeiting that visit. Always jump on a waitlist, you’ll most likely get in!

 

What if my class is cancelled?

Classes need a minimum of 3 clients to proceed. Classes will be cancelled up to 2 hours before the start time of the class if there are less than 3 people booked in.
